3 Tips (Out of 20+) on How to Write a Book

By on November 18, 2017
Okay, these are actually 3 tips on how not to write your first book. I learned the hard way….
  1. Don’t sit all the time. Use a standing desk. Stand and move around a lot! Otherwise you may be paying someone for the pain of pushing around trigger points, or, telling you that you  have arthritis.
  2. Don’t think for a second, that you and your beta readers caught all the typos. Before you hit that button that says, Submit Your Final Manuscript, hire a fresh pair eyes, specifically, a professional proof reader. If you don’t, typos, grammos, spacos will haunt your pride, even if your book adds value to the human race.
  3. Don’t think once your book is ready, that it will show up online ready to roll. Ain’t gonna happen. Leave yourself 3 weeks between your publisher’s green light and it actually appearing on online venues all nice and smooth and ready to roll. Do everything you can at each online venue to promote yourself and your book.

Bonus Tip! Marketing is not for the faint of heart. No matter how well you’ve expressed your topic, nor how much heart & soul went into your book, marketing will be 50x more intensive. I love books and own 100s of them. I look at them now on my bookshelf and wonder how I found them all. (I bet at least 1/2 came from delightful hours in small indy bookshops before they sold coffee). The rest, somehow found me.
